What's the December weather like?

The weather in Thailand in December is cool, dry and sunny in Bangkok and the north, the best of the year for most trips, and the Andaman coast is drying out. Koh Samui and Koh Phangan still get showers, and dry out from late December.

Which December festival weekend is yours?

Four big music festivals land in December 2026, and all four have set their dates: Wonderfruit, Tomorrowland Thailand, Big Mountain and EDC Thailand. Wonderfruit and Tomorrowland both sit near Pattaya, a week apart, so one villa covers both.

Wonderfruit: 3 to 7 December 2026 at The Fields at Siam Country Club, near Pattaya, five days of music, art and talks.
Tomorrowland Thailand: 11 to 13 December 2026 at Wisdom Valley, and every ticket is sold out; Thailand has a deal to host it every year to 2030.
Big Mountain: 12 to 13 December 2026 at Farm Chokchai 3 in Pak Chong, the big Thai music festival, with passes on sale until 11 December.
EDC Thailand: 18 to 20 December 2026 at Rhythm Park, Phuket, for ages 20 and over.

Where should you go in December?

The best places to go in Thailand in December are Pattaya and Bangkok for the festivals and the countdown, Chiang Mai for cool nights, and Phuket for beach days and EDC Thailand.

Pattaya: the Wonderfruit and Tomorrowland weekends, with a pool villa from ฿12,500 a day.
Bangkok: the river fireworks and countdown parties on Thursday 31 December.
Chiang Mai: sunny days and the coolest nights of the year, about 17°C.
Phuket: beach clubs, a day on a yacht and EDC Thailand on 18 to 20 December.
Koh Phangan: the Full Moon Party, confirmed for Thursday 24 December, and the countdown party on Haad Rin, confirmed for Thursday 31 December.

Where can you count down to 2027?

Count down on Thursday 31 December 2026 in Bangkok, Pattaya or Phuket, or on the sand at Haad Rin, where the Full Moon Party holds its New Year countdown party. New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, Friday 1 January 2027, are both bank holidays, so the break runs four days.

New Year in Thailand starts with the countdowns on Thursday 31 December, and the party runs through the long weekend to Sunday 3 January 2027.

The month's regular Full Moon Party is confirmed for Thursday 24 December at Haad Rin.

Which December days are bank holidays?

December 2026 has three bank holidays: Father's Day on Saturday 5 December, with banks off on Monday 7 December in its place, Constitution Day on Thursday 10 December, and New Year's Eve on Thursday 31 December.

Father's Day (King Bhumibol's Birthday and National Day): Saturday 5 December, substitute day Monday 7 December.
Constitution Day: Thursday 10 December.
New Year's Eve: Thursday 31 December, with New Year's Day on Friday 1 January 2027.

How do you plan a December trip?
