When is New Year's Eve in Bangkok?

Last year Bangkok counted down in four places at once: fireworks on the river, a giant street party at CentralWorld, 5km of sky over Sukhumvit and a stadium show at Rajamangala. Expect the same zones for Bangkok New Year's Eve on Thursday 31 December 2026; the line-ups come out in December. New Year's Day is a holiday too, so you can sleep it off.

Where are the best Bangkok fireworks?

The best Bangkok New Year fireworks are expected on the river at ICONSIAM again. Last year's show ran from 27 to 31 December, mixing fireworks, drones and pyrotechnics over the Chao Phraya.

The second big show is on land. Last year Sukhumvit set off fireworks along more than 5km of the road, from Asoke and Phrom Phong to Benchasiri Park and Thong Lor, so you can watch from almost anywhere on that stretch.

Tanner's pick: watch the river show from your own boat, every time. By train, last year the Gold Line to Charoen Nakhon, the ICONSIAM stop, ran until 2am. Ask Tanner for a boat on the night.

Can you watch the fireworks from a boat?

Yes. See the river fireworks from the water, on your own private boat on the Chao Phraya; the price depends on the boat, and Tanner quotes to your plan. The ICONSIAM countdown dates for 2026 aren't announced yet; last year the show ended in fireworks along the river at midnight, and the same is expected this year.

What's the CentralWorld street party like?

Bangkok's street party is at CentralWorld in Ratchaprasong, billed as the Times Square of Asia, with a giant crowd, headline concerts and fireworks over the towers at midnight.

Last year the Metropolitan Police closed Ratchadamri Road from noon, and five more roads around Ratchaprasong from 4pm to 2am, so take the BTS in.

Where do you party after midnight?

After midnight the night belongs to the late zones. Registered venues in Silom and Patpong, RCA and Ratchadaphisek can stay open until 4am. Most of Sukhumvit and Thonglor close at 2am.

You must be 20 to drink, and clubs check ID, so bring your passport. If you'd rather a stadium show, NEON Countdown ran over two nights last year, 30 and 31 December, at Rajamangala National Stadium.

How do you get home after midnight?

Get home on New Year's Eve in Bangkok by train before the last service, or with your own driver. Last New Year's Eve the BTS, MRT, Red Line, Airport Rail Link and city buses ran until about 2am; the 2026/27 hours come out in December.

After that, your own car is the only easy way back, with the driver waiting while you dance. Ask Tanner and it's waiting at the door.

How do you plan New Year in Bangkok?

Plan New Year in Bangkok around the four-day break, Thursday 31 December to Sunday 3 January. Book flights and your base early, because the whole country travels.

• Arrive: airport fast track at Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang, ฿2,400 a person: a greeter meets you at the gate and walks you through the fast immigration lane.
• The night: a boat for the river fireworks, then a VIP table in a 4am zone.
• Get around: a luxury van with a driver from ฿6,500 for 10 hours, for up to 4 guests.
