What's the January weather like?
The weather in Thailand in January is sunny and dry in most places, with cool nights in the north. It's one of the best months of the year for a trip, which is why it's high season.
For beach days in January, the Andaman coast, Phuket and Krabi, is the best bet: sunny, with about 7 rain days in the month. The Gulf islands still get short showers, about 11 rain days, easing off towards February. Bring a light jacket for Chiang Mai, where nights drop to about 16°C.
The Gulf islands, Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, are driest February to April. See every month on the Thailand festival calendar, or go back to Thailand in December or on to Thailand in February.

When is the January Full Moon Party?
The Full Moon Party in January 2027 is on Friday 22 January at Haad Rin beach on Koh Phangan. January is a good month for it, with the Gulf islands' driest stretch, February to April, just ahead.
Read Full Moon Party and getting to Koh Phangan.
When is the Phuket boat show?
The Thailand International Boat Show 2027 runs from Thursday 14 to Sunday 17 January at Phuket Yacht Haven Marina. It's Phuket's big week on the water, and the Andaman coast is dry by January, so it's a good time for a day on a yacht.

What are the public holidays in January 2027?
The only public holiday in January 2027 is New Year's Day, Friday 1 January. New Year's Eve, Thursday 31 December 2026, is a holiday too, so the New Year break runs four days, to Sunday 3 January.
Children's Day is Saturday 9 January, but it isn't a day off. The next public holiday is Makha Bucha, with the day off on Monday 22 February.
How do you plan a January 2027 Thailand trip?
Plan a January 2027 Thailand trip around UnKonscious: four days of trance in Pattaya from Thursday 28 January, with a boat party, a beach festival and after-parties. January is high season, so book the villa first.
- Land fast: airport fast track at Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang, ฿2,400 a person: a greeter meets you at the gate and walks you through the fast immigration lane.
- Straight to Pattaya: a party van with a driver, Bangkok to Pattaya ฿3,500 each way, for up to 10. The drive is about 2 hours.
- Your base: a Pattaya pool villa from ฿12,500 a day, for all four festival days.
