Loy Krathong 2027: when is it?
Loy Krathong 2027 is expected on Saturday 13 November, the full moon of the twelfth Thai lunar month, and it's the big night of the year: candlelit krathong on every river, and lanterns over Chiang Mai on the same full moon. People float krathong, small boats of banana leaf, flowers and candles, after dark to say thanks to the water. It isn't a public holiday, so the floating starts in the evening.
Pick your night, going by the 2026 programmes:
- Bangkok: along the Chao Phraya River, on Loy Krathong night itself. In 2026 the Vijit Chao Phraya lights run on the river from 13 November to 13 December.
- Sukhothai: the Loy Krathong, Burning Candles and Playing with Fire festival at the Historical Park runs 15 to 24 November 2026, with shows at 7pm and tickets at ฿500, ฿900 or ฿1,200.
- Chiang Mai: Yi Peng, the lantern festival, on the same full moon.
- Koh Phangan: the Full Moon Party on Haad Rin falls the same night, Saturday 13 November.
Read Loy Krathong, Loy Krathong in Sukhothai and Full Moon Party.
When are the Yi Peng lanterns in 2027?
Yi Peng 2027 is expected around Loy Krathong, Saturday 13 November, when Chiang Mai sends its lanterns up on the same full moon. In 2026 the city festival runs three days, 23 to 25 November, around Loy Krathong night, and it's free. Lanterns go up only in permitted areas and at set times. Read Yi Peng.
When are the fireworks and the elephants?
The Pattaya International Fireworks Festival, the Surin Elephant Round-up and Lopburi's Monkey Buffet Festival all fall in late November, and the 2027 dates aren't out yet. Here are their 2026 dates:
- Pattaya International Fireworks Festival: Friday 27 and Saturday 28 November 2026, two nights of fireworks over Pattaya Bay, free to watch from the beach.
- Surin Elephant Round-up: shows on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November 2026, with the Elephant Fair from 14 to 25 November; reserved seats ฿350 or ฿250, and the main grandstand free.
- Monkey Buffet Festival, Lopburi: expected Sunday 29 November 2026 at Phra Prang Sam Yot, with long tables of fruit laid out for the town's monkeys.

How do you plan a November trip?
Plan a November 2027 Thailand trip around Loy Krathong, expected Saturday 13 November, and pick your night: lanterns in Chiang Mai, the light shows in Sukhothai, the river in Bangkok, or the Full Moon Party on Haad Rin, which falls the same night. Then add the Pattaya fireworks or the Surin elephants late in the month.
- Arriving: airport fast track at Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang, ฿2,400 a person: a greeter meets you at the gate and walks you through the fast immigration lane.
- Chiang Mai or Sukhothai: a luxury van with a driver from ฿6,500 for 10 hours, for up to 4.
- Your base: a private pool villa from ฿18,500 a day, or a Pattaya pool villa from ฿12,500 a day for the fireworks.
- Haad Rin instead: your own speedboat from Samui to Haad Rin; Tanner quotes it to your plan.
Plan it with Tanner, or read Chiang Mai festivals.

- Loy Krathong: expected Sat 13 November, the same night as the Full Moon Party.
- Yi Peng: expected around 13 November, Chiang Mai.
