What's the best place to celebrate Songkran?

The best place to celebrate Songkran depends on the trip you want. Bangkok has Silom Road, Khao San Road and a music festival, Pattaya keeps going latest, Phuket and Samui add the beach, and Chiang Mai keeps the most tradition.

• For the city party: Bangkok, with SIAM Songkran and Silom Road.
• For the latest finish: Pattaya, where Wan Lai starts a couple of days after the holiday ends and keeps the water going for three more days.
• For the beach: Phuket for Patong, or Koh Samui for Chaweng and the Full Moon a week later.
• For tradition: Chiang Mai, with the Old City moat and the Phra Buddha Sihing procession.

Whichever city you pick, the villa is the same idea: your own pool, your own hours, and the water fights on your doorstep.

Where should you stay in Bangkok?

Stay for Songkran in Bangkok in a pool villa, with a car to drop you at Silom Road or Khao San Road and pick you up after. Bangkok also has the music festival: SIAM Songkran runs from Saturday 10 to Tuesday 13 April 2027 at Bravo BKK on Rama 9, into the first day of the holiday.

Silom Road is the big street water fight. In 2026 the city closed it to traffic from Sala Daeng to Nararom from 12 to 14 April, with the water running from the afternoon into the evening. Khao San Road was closed from 13 to 15 April, noon to midnight, with water play until 10pm.

• Arriving: airport fast track at Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang, ฿2,400 a person: a greeter meets you at the gate and walks you through the fast immigration lane.
• Getting around: a luxury van with a driver from ฿6,500 for 10 hours, for up to 4.
• Your base: a pool villa from ฿18,500 a day.

Why stay in a Pattaya villa for Songkran?

Stay in a Pattaya pool villa because Pattaya keeps going latest. The holiday is 13 to 15 April 2027, and Wan Lai follows a few days later: Naklua first, then Wan Lai Pattaya, when Beach Road turns into one long water fight. The 2027 Wan Lai dates come out early in the year.

A Pattaya pool villa is from ฿12,500 a day. Pattaya is about 2 hours from Bangkok by road, and a party van from Bangkok costs ฿3,500 each way, for up to 10.

In 2026 Wan Lai ran from 17 to 19 April, two days after the holiday ended, with Naklua on 18 April and Wan Lai Pattaya on 19 April. That makes Pattaya the easy add-on to a Bangkok Songkran: Bangkok for the holiday, Pattaya for Wan Lai.

How do you do Phuket Songkran from a villa?

Do Phuket Songkran from a west coast villa: Bangla Road's water fight all afternoon, then a driver back to your own pool. The holiday is 13 to 15 April 2027, the biggest water fight takes over Bangla Road and the beach road in Patong, and Phuket Old Town has its own on Dibuk Road.

In 2026 the Phuket Water Festival ran from 11 to 13 April, and Dibuk Road's Old Town water fight was on 13 April. A pool villa is from ฿18,500 a day. Bangkok to Phuket is about 1 hour 20 to 1 hour 30 by air, with more than 30 flights a day, so book the seats early: Songkran is a 3-day public holiday.

Is a Chiang Mai villa worth it?

Yes. A pool villa in Chiang Mai gives your group a cool, quiet base away from the Old City moat, where the water fight runs all day. Songkran is 13 to 15 April 2027, and the city's own Pi Mai Mueang festival runs on the days around it.

The Phra Buddha Sihing procession comes through the Old City on Tuesday 13 April. After dark, the party moves to Nimman, and registered clubs stay open until 4am.

Why stay on Samui for the Full Moon Party?

Do Songkran on Koh Samui from a pool villa, then stay on for the Full Moon Party. Samui gets going on the evening of 12 April in Chaweng, the east coast is one big water fight from 13 to 15 April 2027, and the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan follows on Wednesday 21 April.

A Songkran day in a pool villa runs on a simple rhythm: a pool morning, the water fights in the afternoon, a club after dark, and a recovery day when you need it.

• Pool morning: breakfast by the pool, water guns filled, the group ready at its own pace.
• The water fights: a car drops you at the edge of the zone after lunch and waits for you after.
• A club after: dry clothes in the car, a table booked, and the night out in the city.
• A recovery day: stay in, add a bartender, and let the pool do the work.

Yes, the parts around it do. Songkran is three public holidays, and the whole country travels, so flights, pool villas and drivers book up first.

SIAM Songkran's advance sale opened on 31 October 2026: GA costs ฿4,600 for 3 days or ฿5,900 for all 4, and VIP ฿8,200 or ฿11,500. The line-up isn't out yet.

How do you book the right Songkran villa?

Book your Songkran pool villa as soon as you have dates, because the holiday fills first. Then pick it by three things: where the water is, how big your group is, and how late you want the music.

• Near the water, not on it: close enough for a short drive to Silom, Beach Road or Patong, but off the closed roads, so the car can reach you.
• Sized to the group: a bedroom for everyone and a pool big enough for the whole crew, with cars matched to the plan.
• Music hours: villa music ends between midnight and 6am, depending on the villa, so ask before you book if the party is at home.
