Koh Phangan Nightlife

In short

Koh Phangan nightlife follows the moon, and the next Full Moon Party lights up Haad Rin Beach on 24 November.

What's Koh Phangan nightlife like all year?

Koh Phangan nightlife runs on the moon, and Koh Samui's festivals run on the holidays. From November 2026 to May 2027 that means the Full Moon Party on Tuesday 24 November and Thursday 24 December 2026, the Haad Rin countdown on Thursday 31 December, Songkran on Samui from 13 to 15 April 2027 and the Samui Regatta, expected in late May 2027. Full Moon dates move by a day when they fall on a Buddhist holy day.

Ask Tanner which moon fits your trip.

What are the big nights out on Koh Phangan?

Koh Phangan's big nights out are the Full Moon Party on Haad Rin Beach once a month, the Halfmoon Festival about every two weeks, and OXA's jungle party on Friday nights. Between them, the island has a big night almost every week from November to April.

  • Full Moon Party: the all-night beach party on Haad Rin, once a month.
  • Halfmoon Festival: a ticketed festival near Ban Tai, with day parties at Harmony Beach and night parties in the Magic Forest until sunrise, for ages 20 and up.
  • OXA: OXA throws a jungle party every Friday night at Ban Tai, on three stages, until sunrise.

Smaller parties such as the Waterfall Festival and Jungle Experience run through the season too, on dates set by their own venues.

Every party night, date by date, is in the Koh Phangan parties calendar.

When is the next Full Moon Party?

The next Full Moon Party is Tuesday 24 November 2026 on Haad Rin Beach, Koh Phangan, which is also Loy Krathong night. After that come Thursday 24 December, the New Year countdown on Thursday 31 December, then 22 January, 22 February, 22 March and 21 April 2027.

The party starts after sunset and goes on until sunrise. When a full moon lands on a Buddhist holy day, the party moves to the next night: that's why February's is on the 22nd.

Read Full Moon Party for the nights, the beach and what to bring.

When is the Halfmoon Festival?

The Halfmoon Festival is on Tuesday 17 November, then 2 and 3, and 16 and 17 December 2026. In December, the day parties are at Harmony Beach from 3pm to midnight, and the night parties in the Magic Forest near Ban Tai run from 9pm until sunrise. For 17 November, the organiser hasn't settled the venue, so check its page before you go.

For 17 December, the night pass is ฿2,500 online on Megatix or ฿2,700 at the door, and the speedboat package from Samui is ฿3,700. Every guest must be 20 or over.

Read Halfmoon Festival for the passes and the pre-party.

Are there Full Moon parties on Koh Samui?

No. The Full Moon Party happens on Koh Phangan, not Koh Samui, but Samui is the easiest base for it. Speedboats leave Bangrak (Big Buddha) or Maenam piers and reach Haad Rin in 20 to 30 minutes.

With your own private Full Moon boat, you pick the return time and skip the queue for the shared boats; Tanner quotes boats to your plan. Every boat and pier is in getting to Koh Phangan.

The piers, the ferry times and the Full Moon night tips are in Koh Samui to Koh Phangan.

Where's New Year's Eve on the islands?

New Year's Eve on the islands means the Full Moon countdown on Haad Rin Beach, Thursday 31 December 2026. It's a bank holiday, and the one night of the year the Full Moon Party counts down to midnight.

The countdown week is busy on both islands, and Christmas Day falls on a Friday, an OXA night.

Book the boats and the villa early for the New Year week; the whole plan is in the New Year festival trip.

How do you do Songkran on Koh Samui?

Songkran on Koh Samui means Chaweng and Lamai turned into one long water fight from the evening of 12 April, with your villa pool to dry off in. The holiday runs Tuesday 13 to Thursday 15 April 2027. The west coast, around Nathon, keeps it more traditional.

In 2026 the island's own festival, Samui Songkran Klang Le, ran from 12 to 15 April in Bo Phut, Maret and Ang Thong, with Buddha bathing at the temples and a parade. The 2027 programme isn't out yet.

A week after Songkran, the Full Moon Party follows on Wednesday 21 April 2027. Read Songkran on Koh Samui for the water zones.

When is the Samui Regatta?

The Samui Regatta is a week of yacht racing off Chaweng Beach, with beach parties in the evenings. The 2027 regatta is expected in late May; the dates aren't confirmed yet.

In 2026 it ran from 23 to 30 May: registration first, then four race days, and a gala dinner after the last race.

Read May 2027 for the month's other festivals.

How do you plan an island festival trip?

Plan a Koh Phangan or Koh Samui festival trip around a villa on Samui, your own boat for the party nights and a day out on the water. Tanner sets it up to your dates.

  • Your base: a private pool villa from ฿18,500 a day.
  • Party nights: your own Full Moon boat, Samui to Haad Rin, at the return time you choose.
  • A day on the water: a Koh Samui catamaran with the party layer on top.
  • After the party: a club table, priced to your trip and quoted the same day.

Getting there: fly to Samui, then it's boats all the way; read Bangkok to Koh Samui. More ideas are in Thailand festival trips. Plan it with Tanner.

How do you make the most of a party night?

Make the most of Koh Phangan nightlife by booking the boat and the bed first, then picking your nights. Party weeks fill both islands fast.

  • Pick your nights: the Full Moon on the beach, the Halfmoon in the jungle, or OXA on a Friday. Two in one week is easy.
  • Dress for sand: light clothes and shoes you don't mind getting dirty, and your passport left in your room.
  • Bring ID: you must be 20 to drink in Thailand, and the Halfmoon Festival is 20 and over.
  • Plan the ride home: the parties run until sunrise, so set your boat or car for the time you want to leave.

What's Koh Phangan nightlife in short?

  • The Full Moon Party is monthly on Haad Rin; the next is 24 November 2026.
  • The New Year countdown on Haad Rin is Thursday 31 December 2026.
  • Songkran on Samui is 13 to 15 April 2027, biggest in Chaweng.

Plan it with Tanner.

Getting home

Getting home after the party

Your own Full Moon boat waits at the return time you choose and takes the group back to Samui, 20 to 30 minutes across, with no queue for the shared boats.
